Saudi Arabia is rapidly moving forward with a historic 7 billion dollar project known as the “Wonder of the Desert,” an initiative expected to transform transportation and trade across the Middle East. The mega project, called the “Land Bridge,” will connect the coastal city of Jeddah on the Red Sea to Dammam in the Persian Gulf, passing through the capital Riyadh.
The 1,500-kilometer high-speed railway will reduce travel time from 12 hours to less than 4 hours, revolutionizing commercial and passenger connections in the region.
The project is part of the ambitious “Saudi Vision 2030” program, which aims to diversify the economy and reduce the kingdom’s dependence on oil.
Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) is leading the implementation of the project, with plans to build modern stations and purchase 15 new trains capable of speeds up to 200 km/h.
Meanwhile, the luxurious “Dream of the Desert” railway is also being promoted, offering a unique 1,290-kilometer travel experience from Riyadh to Qurayyat, crossing Saudi Arabia’s breathtaking desert landscapes.
Expanding the railway network from 5,300 to 8,000 kilometers will position Saudi Arabia as a new hub for logistics and sustainable transportation in the Arab world.
With over 2.6 million passengers recorded in just the last quarter, the kingdom is marking a new era in its infrastructure development history.
