Deco: The Club Needs to Be Rebuilt

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has admitted that the club may be forced to sell players during the January transfer window in order to secure financial resources to support ongoing projects, including the renovation of “Spotify Camp Nou.”

His statements come at a time when Barcelona continues to face economic constraints, which require the club to carefully evaluate every move in the transfer market.

“The club needs to be rebuilt. It’s a step-by-step process. The president has shown great courage by taking on the rebuilding of the squad, the stadium, and the finances — which is not easy. But the club is on the right path,” Deco emphasized.

The sporting director praised the high level of talent coming from La Masia, noting that their presence reduces the need to look for reinforcements outside the club.

“As a sporting director, you must analyze what you have in the club before going to the market. When you have players like Lamine, Cubarsí, Gavi, Balde, or Marc Casado… they are important players for us, and you don’t always need to sign others,” he said.

Although Barcelona does not prefer selling players, Deco acknowledged that in some situations, it becomes necessary.

“Our main idea is not to sell players; Barcelona is not a club that likes doing that. But of course, we must improve in this aspect, because sometimes it is necessary. To sell young players, you need control and planning — we must pay attention to their contracts and their future,” he added.
