The announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan has been confirmed by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister.
Ishaq Dar published a message on the social media platform X, stating:
“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect.”
“Pakistan has always pursued peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs also confirmed that the ceasefire began at 5:00 PM India time (2:00 PM local time).
It added that the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan called earlier this afternoon, and both sides agreed to halt all firing.
The statement further noted that additional talks between India and Pakistan are scheduled for May 12.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also reacted, stating that India and Pakistan showed “maturity” by agreeing to a ceasefire following a series of deadly clashes that had brought the two nations to the brink of a broader conflict.
“I am pleased to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to begin discussions on a range of broader issues in a neutral location,” Rubio wrote on platform X.
The latest conflict between India and Pakistan in May 2025 represents the most serious military escalation between the two nuclear powers since the Kargil War in 1999.
The clash was triggered by a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, where 26 Indian tourists were killed.
India blamed Pakistani-backed militants for the attack, while Pakistan denied any involvement.
