Mohamed Salah has reportedly signed a contract with a team in the Saudi Pro League – according to his compatriot and former Premier League player, Mido.
The Liverpool hero was subject to intense interest from the Arab league last summer with Al Ittihad said to have offered €200 million for the Egyptian’s services, but was quickly rebuffed by Premier League leaders.
The 31-year-old player has established himself as one of the best players in the world since his arrival at Anfield in 2017, where he played a key role in Liverpool’s triumph in the Champions League and Premier League in recent years. He won his seventh trophy with the club on Sunday (February 25) after Reds’ extra-time win against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, which he missed due to injury.
Just days after the triumph, his future at Merseyside was called into question by Mido – who played for teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough, and West Ham – who posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) to claim that Salah will leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia this summer.
The 41-year-old wrote: “Mohamed Salah will be in the Saudi League next season. Contracts have been signed.”
Liverpool saw some players leave for Saudi Arabia last season with Roberto Firmino joining Al Ahli, Fabinho signing for Al Ittihad, while former captain Jordan Henderson went to Al Ettifaq.
