Paris Saint-Germain is continuing to make history in Europe: Three finals, two in a row, and chasing FC Barcelona’s record

Paris Saint-Germain continues to set new standards for French football on the European stage. The club from the French capital has become the first French team to reach three UEFA Champions League finals and, at the same time, the first from France to appear in two consecutive finals, confirming its status as one of the major forces in European football.

At the heart of this success is Luis Enrique, who is heading to his third Champions League final as a coach.

The Spaniard previously won the trophy with FC Barcelona in 2015, while he guided Paris Saint-Germain to the title in 2025, placing the Parisian club on the verge of another historic moment.

PSG has also entered a very exclusive group of defending champions that manage to reach the final again the following season. Paris is the first reigning champion to secure a Champions League final since Real Madrid CF, which achieved this in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons (winning both), after lifting the trophy in the 2015/16 edition.

The Parisians’ form in European competitions has also been impressive. PSG has won its last eight two-legged knockout ties in the Champions League and has lost only two of its last 20 matches in UEFA competitions, recording 13 wins and 5 draws — a clear indication of stability and consistency at the highest level.

Beyond the history and results, PSG is also close to a major offensive record. FC Barcelona’s record of 45 goals in a single Champions League season (1999/2000) is seriously under threat in the 2025/26 campaign, with Paris closing in on the mark and having the opportunity to break it if they maintain the same pace in the grand final.

With these statistics, Paris Saint-Germain is not only dominating French football history in Europe, but also building an era that is challenging some of the greatest records in Champions League history.
