Gigi Buffon’s agent, Silvano Martina, says the legendary goalkeeper is certain to stay on for another season if Parma are promoted to Serie A.
Soon the 45-year-old played his 50th game at the ‘San Siro’, in Parma’s 2-1 defeat against Inter in the Coppa Italia round of 16.
His agent Silvano Martina discussed his future in an interview with ‘Tuttosport’.
“He has two years left on his contract but we will talk at the end of the season and Gigi will be free to make the best decision for himself.
Of course, he still feels competitive. For me, if Parma get promoted, he will certainly continue. If not, he can still go ahead, but only if he’s sure he’ll be on top. Serie B is a very difficult league and what Parma did the other night against Inter proves that.”
Buffon took to social media after the match against Inter, celebrating his 50th appearance at the ‘San Siro’, writing: ’50 times at the San Siro… for now!’
Thanks to his 657 games, 168 with Parma and 489 with Juventus, Buffon is the player with the most appearances in Serie A.
He made his debut in Italy’s top flight on 19 November 1995, in a 0–0 draw against Milan.
Italy’s 2006 World Cup winner has played seven games in all competitions this season, conceding seven goals.
