Unusual story/ Ranked fourth in the World Cup, but his club kicked him out

Selim Amallah wrote history with Morocco by finishing the World Cup in fourth place. The Standard Liège midfielder was one of the most used players by coach Walid Regragui. The former footballer of Mouscron and Tubize was active in the seven matches that the “Indefatigable Lions” played in Qatar. Furthermore, he started four of them, including wins against Spain (0-0) and Portugal (1-0).

The dream he lived in “Qatar 2022” has been destroyed as soon as he returned to Belgium. Amallah’s contract expires in June (on January 1 he is free to negotiate with any team), but Standard Liege have decided to let him go because of his refusal to renew his contract.

“We have decided to send Selim Amallah and three other players to the youth. We will not do anything to increase the value of players who will leave for free”, Pierre Locht, president of Standard, has openly admitted.

“We will not do the dirty work for other teams. The easiest thing would be to let them play, but it would send a dangerous signal. To accept that you can continue to play and then leave for free would be the death of the club,” insisted Locht.
