Bayern Munich and Manchester United have made convincing winning starts to their Champions League campaigns, defeating Bodø/Glimt 5–0 and Sabah Baku 4–0, respectively.
In Munich, Bayern dominated the match against the Norwegian side, although the goals were missing in the first half. Luis Díaz and Harry Kane had good opportunities in the opening minutes, while Joshua Kimmich hit the post. Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin was one of the main reasons his team went into the break without conceding, but he was injured while making a save late in the first half and had to be substituted.
Bayern found the breakthrough just 77 seconds after the start of the second half. Harry Kane took the shot, the ball was deflected towards Jamal Musiala, who finished to make it 1–0.
Kane then got on the scoresheet himself, heading home following a free-kick delivered by Michael Olise.
Bodø/Glimt had a chance to get back into the game, but Andreas Helmersen failed to take advantage of the opportunity when he attempted to catch Manuel Neuer off guard from around 45 metres.
Bayern continued to dominate, and Alphonso Davies made it 3–0 with a powerful long-range strike. Then it was Olise’s turn, as he scored a beautiful left-footed goal into the top corner.
The situation became even worse for the Norwegians after Odin Bjortuft was sent off for a foul on Olise outside the penalty area. In stoppage time, Olise scored his second goal of the match to complete the 5–0 victory.
Manchester United also recorded a comfortable win, beating Azerbaijan’s Sabah 4–0 at Old Trafford.
The visitors resisted for around 25 minutes, but a mistake by Kaheem Parris gave United the opportunity to take the lead. Patrick Dorgu provided the assist, while Matheus Cunha finished to make it 1–0.
Sabah had a chance to equalize, but Joy-Lance Mickels failed to find the target with his header.
United took full advantage of their lead and scored twice more before half-time. Bruno Fernandes made it 2–0 after a well-worked move, while Benjamin Šeško scored just three minutes later to make it 3–0.
With the result effectively secured, United controlled the second half and did not need to maintain a high tempo, particularly with the Manchester derby awaiting them at the weekend.
However, there was still time for a fourth goal in the closing stages. Lisandro Martínez capitalized on a scramble inside the Sabah penalty area to score and seal the final 4–0 victory.
