U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed the mysterious “gift” that Iran reportedly gave to the United States as part of negotiations. According to Trump, the gift consisted of 10 oil tankers that successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil route.
Trump previously emphasized that this move had aided diplomatic efforts to end the war.
“It was a very big gift, worth an extraordinary amount of money, and I won’t tell you exactly what the gift is, but it was a very important prize,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
He also said that the U.S. had been engaged in highly crucial talks with unidentified Iranian officials, and that the passage of the tankers through the strait was proof that the negotiators were serious.
“They said, ‘To show you that we are real and strong and that we are committed, we will allow you to have 10 oil tankers, large oil ships,’” Trump said, adding that the vessels sailed through the Strait of Hormuz flying Pakistani flags.
