Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he will retire from football within the next one or two years, stating that the 2026 World Cup will be his final tournament.
The Portuguese star, who has scored over 950 goals for club and country, made his debut in 2002 with Sporting Lisbon and has won numerous titles throughout his illustrious career.
Now 40 years old and under contract with Al Nassr until 2027, Ronaldo remains in excellent physical shape and aims to play in the next World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
“I’m really enjoying this moment. I feel good, I’m scoring goals, I’m still fast and in great shape. But to be honest, ‘soon’ for me probably means one or two years,” Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo added that he has given everything to football during his 25-year career.
He also spoke about his son, Cristiano Jr., who plays for Portugal’s U-16 national team.
“As people, we don’t want anyone to be better than us, but I’d be happy if my son became better than me. I’m not jealous. I just want him to be happy, without pressure — whether in football or something else. This is a new generation, with different ideas and ways of living. I’m there to help him become whoever he wants to be,” he said.
