Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a record-breaking £117 million deal, making him the most expensive British footballer in history.
The midfielder has signed a six-year contract with the London club, becoming the marquee signing of new head coach Xabi Alonso’s era.
Rogers joins Chelsea after representing England in six matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while his outstanding performances for Aston Villa earned him a national team call-up from Thomas Tuchel.
During his time at Aston Villa, the 24-year-old made 125 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 29 assists. He enjoyed a remarkable rise in his career following previous spells with Middlesbrough, Lincoln City, Bournemouth, and Blackpool.
A product of the Manchester City academy, Rogers will now reunite at Chelsea with his former City teammates Cole Palmer and Liam Delap.
His transfer surpasses the previous record of the summer transfer window, set when Elliot Anderson joined Manchester City for £116 million, making Morgan Rogers the most expensive British player ever signed.
