Real Madrid has lost another defender to injury, with Dean Huijsen becoming the latest player affected.
On Wednesday, the Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Huijsen was forced to withdraw from Luis de la Fuente’s squad for the upcoming matches against Georgia and Bulgaria, being replaced by Athletic Club’s Aymeric Laporte.
Dean Huijsen has left Spain’s training camp due to an injury and will be unable to play in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia in Elche and Bulgaria in Valladolid. The Real Madrid defender arrived at the national team camp on Monday evening showing signs of muscle fatigue. He did not train on Tuesday, and after the club was informed that his condition was not improving, he underwent medical tests on Wednesday morning, which confirmed a muscle injury. Real Madrid has been notified, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Shortly after, Real Madrid released an official medical report on Huijsen, revealing that:
“He has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the soleus of his left leg.”
Huijsen has been a key player for Xabi Alonso since his arrival from AFC Bournemouth in June, but he will now have to stay off the pitch for a short period.
According to Diario AS, he is expected to be sidelined for 12–15 days, meaning he will definitely miss the match against Getafe and possibly the one against Juventus, but he should be fit in time for El Clásico.
It has been a difficult period for Real Madrid regarding defensive injuries, with Huijsen joining Dani Carvajal, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rüdiger, and Ferland Mendy in the treatment room, leaving Alonso with very limited options at the back for now.
