U.S. President Donald Trump today urged Israel to temporarily halt its bombing operations in Gaza, emphasizing that the pause should be used to finalize a decisive agreement for the release of hostages and the establishment of peace, according to CNN.
However, Trump warned Hamas that it must act quickly on his plan to end the war in Gaza — stating that any delay or action that would make Gaza a threat to security again would not be tolerated.
“I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombings — in order to give a chance for the Agreement on the release of hostages and Peace to be reached. Hamas must act quickly, otherwise all proposals will be canceled,” Trump said.
“I will not tolerate delay, which many believe will happen, or any outcome in which Gaza once again poses a threat. Let’s get this done, QUICKLY. Everyone will be treated fairly!” the U.S. President wrote in a post on Truth Social
President Trump’s statement comes after airstrikes that killed 54 people today in the enclave, including 43 in Gaza City alone.
The attacks have continued despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s call on Israel to stop the bombings.
The 20-point peace plan proposed by President Trump envisions that all 48 remaining hostages — of whom an estimated 20 are still alive — will be released by Hamas within 72 hours of accepting the agreement.
Hamas announced last night that it accepts the plan in principle and will release the hostages, but the group is seeking further negotiations on several key points.
