Tragedy in Rome: Bodies of a woman and an infant found in a park

A shocking event has shaken Rome on Saturday evening, where the lifeless bodies of a woman and an infant were discovered in Villa Pamphili Park.

According to initial reports, the two bodies were found in separate areas of the park, less than 200 meters apart.

The incident came to light when a group of young people playing volleyball in one of the park’s open areas made the discovery. One of the girls stepped away to use the restroom and was faced with a horrifying sight: a woman’s body inside a black bag, with her left arm exposed above her head.

“As soon as I saw it, I realized she was dead,” the girl told Corriere della Sera. “She was wearing a light-colored sleeveless shirt. Then I left the area—I was in shock,” she said.

The girl alerted her friends, who, shocked as well, first approached the body and then, without hesitation, ran to alert the police. The officers were already nearby, as just moments earlier they had discovered the body of a baby—estimated to be between 6 and 12 months old—hidden among the bushes.

“It looked like a doll. From the road, only one side of the body was visible. I didn’t think it could be a real baby,” said one witness who contacted the police.

Law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical teams, and the prosecutor’s office—led by Chief Prosecutor Antonio Verdi—quickly arrived at the scene.

Investigations are currently at an intensive stage. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the two victims are connected. However, the proximity of the discovery sites and the short time between the findings strongly raise suspicions of a possible link.

The prosecutor’s office has ordered DNA tests to determine the identity of the victims and whether there is any familial connection between them.

Prosecutor Verdi described the situation as “very complex,” also leaving open the possibility that these could be two separate incidents.

However, sources close to the investigation have emphasized that the infant showed signs of physical trauma, further raising suspicion of a double homicide.

Police are reviewing all available surveillance footage from areas surrounding the park and questioning witnesses in an effort to reconstruct the exact timeline of the events.
