American billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote on the social media platform X that U.S. President Donald Trump would never have won the election without his support, according to The Guardian.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, the Democrats would control the House of Representatives, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk stated. He described Trump’s recent remarks as “ungrateful,” koha.net reports.
These comments come after Trump told reporters during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that he was “very disappointed” with Musk and wasn’t sure if their relationship would continue.
“Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we still will,” Trump said.
The rift between the two is a result of Musk’s criticism of the Trump administration’s tax and spending bill, which he had labeled “disgusting.”
On Thursday, Trump had said that Musk knew the bill better than anyone else in his administration — a claim Musk rejected, calling it “false.”
Last year, Musk reportedly spent around $300 million in support of Trump’s presidential campaign and other Republican candidates.
