Europe’s Ultimatum to Putin: Ceasefire or “Massive Sanctions”!

The West has never been more determined to pave the way for a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. The leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Poland (Merz, Macron, Starmer, and Tusk) traveled together to Ukraine today and, along with Ukrainian President Zelensky, agreed on a one-month ceasefire.

Together, they are calling for an unconditional ceasefire to open the door to peaceful negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Following this agreement, they held a joint phone call with Washington. The United States and President Trump have supported this ceasefire plan.

Russia has until Monday to respond to these proposals, otherwise the West will respond with “massive sanctions,” as stated.

It is not yet known what exactly these massive sanctions will entail, but British Prime Minister Starmer stated that they have never been more serious in their demands. Macron, Merz, and Tusk echoed this sentiment. The call for a ceasefire has also been supported by Canada, New Zealand, and many other countries.

Macron said they hope to see a general ceasefire starting from Monday. Once the ceasefire is established, steps will begin to ensure permanent peace.

Otherwise, the situation could escalate, and aid to Ukraine will be intensified.

Merz stated that Germany has been and continues to be on Ukraine’s side, while Russia is the aggressor and solely responsible for this war. He emphasized that Germany will continue its support for Ukraine. But for now, all attention is focused on achieving a ceasefire and a peaceful resolution.

Now the ball is in Russia’s court, and it remains to be seen how they will respond and whether they will accept the ceasefire proposals by Monday.
