Less than 24 hours after white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel chimney, signaling the election of a new pope, Pope Leo XIV will hold his first Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Pope Leo XIV is the first North American to be elected as the leader of the Catholic Church. In his first speech as pope, he spoke in English, Spanish, and Italian, delivering a message of “peace and unity.”
Catholics and world leaders from around the globe continue to share their congratulations for the new pope, including U.S. President Donald Trump, who described his election as a “great honor.”
