Robert Francis Prevost from the United States has been elected as the new Pope to lead the Catholic Church, The Guardian reports.
The new Pope, American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, will be known as Pope Leo XIV.
What happens next?
Once a Pope is elected, the Dean of the College of Cardinals asks him: “Do you accept your canonical election as Supreme Pontiff?”
If he accepts, he must then choose his papal name. The cardinals will then pledge their obedience to the new Pope.

After that, he will go to the adjoining Room of Tears
This time, it is believed that the Vatican is recycling garments used in previous conclaves.
The new Pope is then escorted to the main balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to greet the crowds, where the famous words will be proclaimed: “Habemus Papam” (We have a Pope).
