The Vatican announced on Monday that Pope Francis has passed away,
Pope Francis, the first leader of the Roman Catholic Church from Latin America, died today at 7:35 a.m.
The Vatican made the announcement in a video statement.
He was 88 years old and had recently survived a severe bout of double pneumonia.
“Dear brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” announced Cardinal Kevin Farrell on the Vatican’s television channel.
