A story that began in 1954 ends now, in 2024. After 70 years of history, the name Maldini will no longer be present in Milan’s staff. Daniel Maldini, the last member of the clan, has permanently left the Rossoneri to join Monza.
The Maldini dynasty at Milan started with Cesare in the distant year of 1954. As a player, the family patriarch played 390 games for the Italian team between 1954 and 1966. He later returned as a coach, twice: first between 1972 and 1974, and then in 2001.
The second Maldini to wear the club’s red and black jersey was the one who had the greatest impact on the Milan team. Paolo Maldini spent his entire youth with the club and made his first-team debut in 1985. He then spent 25 consecutive years as a Rossoneri player, many of them as captain and a key figure for Milan.
In total, he played 902 games, winning an impressive 25 titles. He retired in 2009 at the age of 41, but returned to the club in 2018 as a sporting director, a position he held until 2023.
The third and final member of the Maldini family to represent the Italian giant was Daniel. Less successful than his father, Paolo, and grandfather, Cesare, the attacking midfielder played only 24 games for the club, after spending his entire development period with the northern Italian club.
This was followed by loans to Spezia, Empoli, and Monza, with the latter permanently signing the player, thus ending the Maldini era at Milan.
