Manuel Neuer has set a new record in the Champions League after keeping a clean sheet in the victory against Arsenal.
Bayern Munich secured their Champions League semi-final spot by eliminating Arsenal on Wednesday night. However, at the center of attention was Bayern’s veteran goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, who cemented his name in the annals of Champions League history with another remarkable achievement.
Keeping a clean sheet in his 138th appearance in the competition, Neuer surpassed the legendary Iker Casillas to become the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the history of the competition.
Casillas had previously held the record, keeping a clean sheet in 57 out of 177 games he played.
“I feel good. We put in a very good performance. We gave them very little. This discipline was the decisive factor,” Neuer said after the match.
As Bayern prepares to face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, Neuer will be eager to add to his ever-growing tally by shutting out Casillas’ former team. The two European giants meet at the Allianz Arena on April 30, followed by a second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on May 8.
