Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he is unlikely to play in the 2026 World Cup with Portugal after four years.
The Portuguese icon was part of the Selecao team eliminated from the tournament in the quarterfinals in 2022. He claimed at the time that his dream of the World Cup was over after being left on the bench for the elimination phase.
However, Ronaldo has enjoyed a resurgence under the guidance of Portugal’s new coach, Roberto Martinez, returning to the starting lineup. He has scored five goals in four qualifying matches for Euro 2024 since the World Cup in Qatar.
His fans would hope that the European champion of Euro 2016 would be part of the team in the 2026 World Cup. However, the Al Nassr superstar is not looking that far ahead yet, and he recently said that he cannot project himself that far.
“The 2026 World Cup? I’ll be honest, I can’t project myself that far ahead. Anything can happen, I want to live in this moment. I want to have a great European Championship and then we’ll see what happens,” declared the 38-year-old.
