Liverpool could be forced to sell as many as nine players before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, due to the large size of the squad and registration restrictions.
The Reds have made only two signings this summer, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo, but they currently have 31 first-team players over the age of 21.
In the Premier League, clubs are allowed to register a maximum of 25 players in their squad.
Liverpool also have 14 players who meet the criteria for being homegrown, but this does not solve the problem of the overall squad size.
The situation becomes even more complicated in the Champions League, where Liverpool have 33 players who need to be considered for registration, including Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni.
As a result, Liverpool would have to leave six players out of their Premier League squad and eight out of their Champions League squad if they do not move players on before the transfer window closes.
The problem could become even bigger if the club makes further signings. Liverpool are continuing to look for attacking reinforcements, with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola reportedly one of their main targets.
Therefore, Liverpool’s hierarchy could face a difficult task during the final weeks of the transfer window, with several players potentially needing to be sold or sent out on loan in order to create space in the squad and comply with registration rules.
