Harry Maguire has been left devastated after being excluded from England’s squad for the World Cup.
The 33-year-old defender, who for years has been one of the key players for the England national football team, is not expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s final squad for this summer’s tournament.
According to reports from the English media, Maguire was surprised by the decision, especially after the strong form he has shown this season with Manchester United.
Under manager Michael Carrick, he has re-established himself as an important starter for the English club, starting 18 of his 22 Premier League appearances.
Maguire also reacted on social media, where he did not hide his disappointment over being left out of the England national team.
“I was convinced that I could play an important role for my country this summer after the season I’ve had. I am shocked and devastated by this decision,” he wrote.
“Over the years, I have wanted nothing more than to wear that shirt and represent my country. I wish all the players the very best this summer,” Maguire added.
England’s full squad for the World Cup will be announced on Friday.
