Poem by Vangjush Ziko

THE ROSES WITHERING
Petrarch gets sad,
the sonnet leaves are dropping,
poets of love that cheer
no longer appear.

Juliet in heaven gets sad:
where are the chaste girls
they no longer appear,
on earth more prostitutes inhere.

Don Juan’s statue gets sad,
Of boredom the bronze rusts,
for love, dueling of knights
are out of sights.

Khayyam gets sad,
Khorasan’s roses withering,
the excited wooers disappear,
no roses
people’s heads tear.
