Marco van Basten has given some comments regarding the performances of Virgil van Dijk in the Netherlands.
The defender of Liverpool, Van Dijk was active with the Netherlands in this gathering as well, where he also found the goal.
However, his activation in building up the national team’s stock is surprisingly low, for Van Basten.
The Dutch icon has said that Van Dijk is among the best, but does very little for the national team.
“Van Dijk is really the best, but he does the least in terms of initiative. It’s strange that such a good player does so little for the Dutch national team in terms of stock building,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport.
“Timber is a good player. Ajax started to play well with this man, and so did the Netherlands. It is really thanks to him that we play so easily from the defensive line. He is a top player”, added the icon.
The praise for Timber has also been given by Van Dijk himself regarding this aspect. It remains to be seen if he himself will start doing more, after these advices/criticisms from Van Basten.
