Yamal: The Champions League Is My Main Objective

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has said that winning the Champions League is his main objective for this season.

Yamal, who is only 19 years old, has been selected by his teammates as one of Barcelona’s vice-captains. He said he was proud of the responsibility and wants to repay his teammates’ faith with success on the pitch.

“Nothing can motivate me more than the Champions League. It is the trophy I have not won yet. We will give everything to win it,” Yamal said at a press conference.

Barcelona are aiming to win the Champions League after a long wait. The Catalan side have been eliminated in the last two editions, while last season they were knocked out by Inter in the semi-finals after extra time.

Head coach Hansi Flick has acknowledged that Barcelona must be ready to adapt their style of play when necessary, particularly in major European matches.

“We always adapt our style to the opponent. Maybe not too much, but when it is necessary. We have our own style, and it has been very successful over the last two seasons,” Flick said.

Yamal also praised Barcelona’s new signings, mentioning Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Rodri.

His selection as vice-captain at the age of 19 is a major recognition from his teammates.

“It is something to be proud of at the age of 19. I am very grateful to my teammates. It is a position that comes with responsibility, even though I am only 19, but I am very happy,” Yamal added.
