Barcelona have officially completed the signing and registration of João Cancelo, who returns to the Catalan club on loan from Al-Hilal for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
The news has been confirmed by official player registration documents with La Liga and by the Spanish club itself, reports Gazeta Express.
How was the transfer completed?
Cancelo, the 31-year-old Portuguese defender, has successfully passed his medical tests with Barcelona and has signed the contract, which has now been deposited with the Spanish Football Federation and La Liga.
The transfer has been completed as a loan deal running until 30 June 2026.
Shirt number and presentation details
Barcelona have handed Cancelo the number 2 shirt, a number that had been vacant in the squad and carries importance in the defensive line.
His official presentation wearing the Barça shirt is expected to take place soon, as the club have already completed all administrative formalities and the player has been handed his new jersey.
Return to Camp Nou
Cancelo returns to Barcelona after a spell with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, having previously spent a loan period with the Catalan side during the 2023/24 season.
With experience in both La Liga and Serie A, he is expected to add strength and experience to Barcelona’s squad this season.
