Real Madrid icon Sergio Ramos is expected to make another move soon, after spending this calendar year with the Mexican side Rayados de Monterrey.
However, he is still not thinking about retiring from football.
After his spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Ramos spent a year at his hometown club Sevilla, before staying seven months without a team as a free agent.
In February he signed with Rayados, but now it seems he will leave again.
The charismatic defender has made 30 appearances for Monterrey and scored seven goals this year, but according to “El Chiringuito”, he has decided to leave at the end of his contract, which expires at the end of December. Nevertheless, Ramos wants to continue playing.
The 39-year-old defender really likes the fans in Mexico, the country, and the city of Monterrey.
But “Diario AS” explains that two main reasons are behind his decision to leave Mexico.
Firstly, he is making this decision to improve his family life. The second reason, and perhaps the most surprising one, is his ambition to play in the World Cup with Spain.
Luis de la Fuente has not called up Ramos since taking charge of La Roja, while his last appearance for the national team dates back to 2021 under Luis Enrique.
Ramos has missed the last three tournaments with Spain, but he wants to return to Europe to convince De la Fuente.
If he were to return to the Spanish national team, he would once again travel to Mexico, the United States, and Canada for the World Cup at the age of 40.
However, it seems very difficult for De la Fuente to call him up, with Dean Huijsen, Pau Cubarsí, Dani Vivian, Aymeric Laporte, and Robin Le Normand competing for the four central defensive spots.
