Poem by John Yamrus

I am not
a misanthrope
but I don’t like

neither crowds,
nor pointless small talk,

nor making people
feel good
or comfortable.

I don’t like
wasting my time
laughing at some idiot,

or
at some fool.

I would much rather
spend the afternoon
on a chair in the yard,
reading Zola,

and
listening
to the music of

my dog snoring.
