Poem by Hajnrih Hajne

THEY LOVED WITH PASSION AND FIRE

They loved with passion and fire,
She – mischievous, he – a thief, entire.
When he would throw a tantrum or shout,
She’d jump on the bed and laugh out loud.

By day, they wandered in beauty and grace,
At night, she slept in his warm embrace.
When they locked him behind a prison gate,
She stood by the window and laughed at fate.

He’d call to her: “Oh, come to me,
For I miss you so terribly.
I call for you – I might just die,” he said.
She’d shake her head and laugh instead…
