Poem by ROBERT MARTIKO

KILLED IN THE SOUL
Through dark years,
a child’s soul was speechless,
while his tears were silent and
the pain deepened without end.

At every step, there was a shadow,
a mark that couldn’t be hidden,
while his worlds were destroyed, by words
that should never have been spoken.

Killed without blood,
burned without noise,
while his lips often broke,
from the pain caused from others.

A child that wanted to laugh,
but couldn’t find a single light,
because those who should have healed,
left wounds that would heel too late.

A body that has felt every blow,
a soul that has broken every illusion,
and now, he walks in darkness,
seeking a way to be saved.

But perhaps, every wound,
that was inflicted,
won’t be deeper
than the hope that may be born one day.

Translated from Albanian to English by Valentina Muka
