De Gea’s High Wage Demands a Problem for Two Serie A Teams

Both Fiorentina and Genoa have held talks with free agent goalkeeper David De Gea, but his wage demands—even with a significant reduction from his salary at Manchester United—are making a deal impossible.

The goalkeeper turns 34 in November and is available after his contract with the Premier League team was allowed to expire, reports Gazeta Express. There were reports of negotiations with Genoa reaching an advanced stage a few days ago, and now Sportitalia confirms that Fiorentina is in discussions with his representatives to work out personal terms.

However, TEAMtalk insists that both Serie A clubs consider his wage demands unreasonable and unacceptable.

It is believed that De Gea is asking for around 5-6 million euros per season, which is three or four times less than what he earned at Manchester United, but still an extremely high amount for a player of his age and recent injury record.

All signs point to the Spaniard potentially taking the next step in his career in the Saudi Pro League rather than in Serie A.
