From Biologist to Hollywood Actor, Hawaiian Legend Jason Momoa Celebrates His 45th Birthday

Jason Momoa celebrates his 45th birthday today. Born in Hawaii in 1979 to a Hawaiian father and a mother of German-Irish descent, he often expresses pride in his Hawaiian heritage in international media. As a child, he never imagined pursuing acting, as his first love was the sea.

In fact, Momoa graduated with a degree in marine biology and ecology and planned to dedicate himself to the study of marine mammals. However, everything changed in 1998 when designers Eric Chandler and Takeo Kobayashi noticed him and introduced him to the world of modeling.

His first role came in 1999 on the popular TV series “Baywatch,” opening the doors to Hollywood. He continued to build his career through various TV series and films. His major career breakthrough came when he landed the role of Khal Drogo in the series “Game of Thrones.” His performance as the famous warrior brought him international fame.

Younger generations recognize him for his role in the film “Aquaman,” where he starred alongside Amber Heard. International media reported that the film grossed over one billion dollars. Variety published details from therapist Dawn Hughes’ notes, which were used during the trial of the famous actress and her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Among other things, Amber spoke about the filming of “Aquaman 2.”

She claimed that Jason deliberately provoked her during the film’s shooting by dressing like Johnny Depp. She said he even wore rings like Depp and tried to distract her and make her lose her job. She added that he came to the set visibly intoxicated. The actor’s media representative denied these accusations. “Jason Momoa behaved professionally throughout the filming of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’” he said. A source close to the actors on set stated that “Jason occasionally likes to have a beer like everyone else, but he doesn’t show up on set drunk nor does he dress like Johnny Depp.”

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet began their relationship in 2005, and 12 years later, they married in a small, intimate ceremony. From the moment they met, Jason openly admitted his long-standing love for Lisa, whom he had admired since his teenage years when he watched her on the series “The Cosby Show.” They have two children together, daughter Lola Iolani and son Nakoa-Wolf. The famous couple announced on social media in 2022 that they had separated. “We have all felt the pressure and changes of these transformative times. A revolution is unfolding and our family is no exception. We have felt and grown due to the seismic shifts occurring,” the statement read. They emphasized their desire to continue their lives with dignity.

In January of this year, Lisa officially filed for divorce and sought joint custody of their children.

In late 2008, while at a restaurant in Los Angeles, Momoa had a physical altercation with a man named Dominic Bando, who broke a beer glass in his face. Momoa suffered a wound that required over 140 stitches. However, the actor believes the scar has helped him in some way. He has stated several times in American media that he was always referred to as “the pretty boy,” but the eyebrow scar helped him shed that image and land roles as dangerous characters.

Momoa remains a nature lover and environmental activist. He often uses his fame to draw attention to issues related to ocean conservation and environmental protection. A few years ago, Momoa announced that he would collaborate with Ball Corporation to create a new line of canned water, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

He emphasized the importance of switching from plastic water bottles to recyclable aluminum cans.
