Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has revealed that former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos was the player who provoked him the most during his time with the Catalan giants.
The Inter Miami star recently recalled his intense clashes with Ramos in the fierce El Clasico encounters.
El Clasico, the iconic showdown between Barcelona and Real Madrid, constantly generates headlines in the media, and Messi’s battles with Ramos were a key element of these high-pressure matches for nearly a decade. Speaking to Abitare, Messi reflected on his confrontations with the legendary defender, saying: “We had many duels with Sergio Ramos. He is the player who angered me the most. Back then, we weren’t teammates, but we always clashed in Clasico; those were intense matches.”
The rivalry between Messi and Ramos ended in the summer of 2021 when both players left Spanish football. In a surprising turn of events, they became teammates at Paris Saint-Germain after both signed during the same transfer window.
During their two years together at PSG, the duo won two Ligue 1 titles and a French Super Cup. Messi joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, while Ramos returned to Sevilla.
Messi remains under contract with Inter Miami, while Ramos’ contract with Sevilla will expire at the end of this month.
