The trailer for the sequel to “Practical Magic” has been released: Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return in the leading roles.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for “Practical Magic 2,” the sequel to the cult 1998 film starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, which arrives in theaters on September 11.

Warner Bros. shared the trailer after it premiered last week for attendees of CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas. The film is set to hit cinemas this fall, on September 11.

The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier. The studio describes the story as a return to a world filled with magic and powerful inherited spells, in which the Owens sisters must confront a dark curse that threatens to destroy their family forever—what is being described as a major cinematic event full of entertainment, magic, and chaos. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprise their roles as Sally and Gilly Owens. The cast also includes Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest return as Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet, reprising the same characters they played in the original 1998 film.

The sequel takes place at a time when Sally has raised her daughters, who are now beginning their own lives, while Gilly has found a quiet life in the company of a black cat. The peace doesn’t last long, as the mysterious character played by Lee Pace pulls the sisters out of their quiet New England town and sends them on a dramatic mission.

The screenplay for “Practical Magic 2” was written by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, based on the 2021 novel “The Book of Magic,” the fourth book in the “Practical Magic” series by author Alice Hoffman. Denise DiNovi, Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman serve as producers, while Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Donald Sabourin, and Alice Hoffman are executive producers.
