Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander.
The Spanish giants will pay around €3 million, which is the amount stipulated in the player’s release clause.
“Real Madrid will pay the full amount specified in the footballer’s release clause,” Racing Santander announced on social media.
Martinez attracted attention from the very first match of the season in La Liga, when he scored for Racing Santander against Villarreal.
However, the Spanish midfielder is not expected to immediately become part of Real Madrid’s first team. He is initially expected to play for the club’s reserve side, where he will continue his development.
Martinez’s transfer is part of Real Madrid’s strategy of investing in young footballers with significant potential for the future.
The Madrid club have made several reinforcements this summer, including the record signing of Yan Diomande.
