Real Madrid publish squad list for the Spanish Super Cup – decision made on Mbappé

Real Madrid are expected to travel today to Saudi Arabia to take part in the Spanish Super Cup, which will be held later this week.

“Los Blancos” will face their city rivals Atlético Madrid in the semi-final on January 8, while a victory would secure them a place in Sunday’s final against either Barcelona or Athletic Bilbao.

Ahead of the trip to Jeddah, head coach Xabi Alonso has announced the list of players who will travel for the tournament.

The main news is that Kylian Mbappé has been left out of the squad, as Real Madrid have decided not to take any risks with their leading goalscorer, who is recovering from a ligament problem.

On the other hand, Alonso has received a positive boost with the return of Dani Carvajal to the squad, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been included in the list, although he may still be some way from a full return to action.

Dean Huijsen, who missed the weekend match against Real Betis due to a physical issue, has recovered and has been included in the squad.

Meanwhile, youngsters David Jiménez and Thiago Pitarch have also received a call-up from Alonso for the trip.
