Portuguese manager José Mourinho has revealed that the one match he would most like to replay is the 2023 UEFA Europa League final, in which Roma were defeated by Sevilla in a penalty shootout.
Speaking on the Beast Mode On podcast, Mourinho admitted that it remains the most painful defeat of his career, while also blaming the officiating of English referee Anthony Taylor.
“If I could replay just one match in my career, it would be the Europa League final with Roma. I believe we deserved to win it.”
Following the final in Budapest, Mourinho was involved in a high-profile confrontation with referee Anthony Taylor, strongly criticizing his decisions both on the pitch and later in the stadium’s parking area.
The incident became one of the most talked-about moments of that season.
The Portuguese coach emphasized that, despite the many trophies he has won throughout his career, that final remains his greatest sporting regret, as he believes Roma came extremely close to lifting another European trophy.
