Modric part of Croatia for Euro 2024 qualifiers

Luka Modric has returned to the Croatian national team as part of a 25-man squad released on Monday that includes Benfica striker Petar Musa for the two European Championship qualifiers.
The 37-year-old said after the victory over Morocco in last year’s World Cup third-place match that he wanted to continue at least until the Nations League and then assess his situation.

Croatia begin the four-team UEFA Nations League on June 14 against the hosts Netherlands in Rotterdam. The winner advances to the final against Spain or Italy four days later.

Croatia host Wales on March 25 and then play Turkey three days later.

Zlatko Dalic’s squad includes 22 players he took to the World Cup in Qatar, with 25-year-old Musa among the new arrivals.

The five-nation qualifying group also includes Armenia and Latvia. The top two teams go through to Euro 2024 in Germany, when Modric will be on his 39th birthday.

The Real Madrid midfielder came fourth last week in the voting for the FIFA best player award. he won that award four years ago after Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final, losing to France
