Former Bayern legend Lothar Mateus said today that the club can win the Champions League this season, but added that Real and Manchester City are the biggest favorites to win the competition, reports Bild.
Bayern have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League after knocking out Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 of Europe’s top club competition:
“If all the players are fit, then this is the best Bayern team in terms of quality of all time. Bayern now have 20 players competing for the starting line-up. In my time there were 13, later 16, 17. However, today you can make five changes”, explained Mateus.
He noted that Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, put together a team of “20 stars”.
“About two years ago I said that the Bayern team was not so balanced. I don’t think it’s because of my criticism, but it seems that there have been changes in the club’s strategy. Bayern have been very active in the last two transfers markets. Salihamidzic deserved all the praise. “Bayern is capable of winning the Champions League, but the biggest favorites are Real and Manchester City,” Mateus concluded. /
