Real Madrid’s decision to sack Xabi Alonso just six months after his appointment has caused a major stir in the football world.
Although the defeat to Barcelona was seen as a turning point, reports suggest that backstage issues and internal clashes with club president Florentino Pérez played a decisive role in his departure. Alonso was dismissed with immediate effect, and Álvaro Arbeloa has taken over the team, expected to remain in charge until the end of the season, as the club targets an elite coach in the summer.
In this context, former Real Madrid manager José Mourinho was asked whether he would consider a return to the “Santiago Bernabéu.” The Portuguese coach’s response was firm and ironic.
“A return to Real Madrid? Don’t count me in for soap operas. There are good soap operas, but they are very long. If you miss one or two episodes, you no longer understand anything,” Mourinho told MARCA, mocking the ongoing drama surrounding the Madrid club.
He stressed that he has no plans to return to Madrid:
“Don’t include me, because I don’t watch soap operas.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s management is considering alternatives for the head coach position. Jürgen Klopp is seen as the main candidate, if he is willing to take on the role, while Enzo Maresca, Zinedine Zidane, and Mikel Arteta are also mentioned on the shortlist.
