The English top-tier football league, Premier League, has issued an official statement regarding the European Super League.
The European Union’s High Court ruled today that UEFA and FIFA had acted unlawfully when they blocked the creation of such a league.
Today, the Premier League stated that they are against the creation of the European Super League.
“The decision today does not embrace the Super League – and the Premier League continues to REJECT any such concept. Supporters are of paramount importance to the game and have consistently made clear their opposition to a ‘breakaway’ competition that would sever the link between domestic and European football,” the statement says, among other things,
The Premier League asserts its commitment to clear principles for an open competition that enhances the success of both domestic and international club competitions.
“Football thrives on the competition created by promotion and relegation, annual merit-based qualification from leagues and domestic cup competitions to international club competitions, and the rivalries and traditions that come with weekends reserved for domestic football,” emphasized the top English league.
