Will Barça attempt to loan Messi? President Laporta’s responses

Joan Laporta has stated that Barcelona will not consider the possibility of loaning Lionel Messi from Inter Miami during the season outside the MLS.

Speculations regarding a potential return to Camp Nou for the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner have been circulating for some time, following his decision not to take steps towards Catalonia when he departed for the United States in the summer of 2023. A short-term loan has been discussed, but Messi is currently enjoying a well-earned break, and the Blaugranes have no intention of posing transfer questions to Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.

Laporta told “EFE” when asked about loan rumors: “All kinds of news come out, but I believe this is not allowed even by FIFA.” He added when asked again why Messi did not return to Barça when he cut ties with Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent: “In the end, it did not happen because what he told us was entirely logical: due to the pressure, he had been in Paris, and he preferred to go to Inter Miami because it would give him a certain stability. A decision we respect.”

Messi is tied to a contract with Inter Miami until 2025, with an option under these conditions for a 12-month extension. This could be triggered if he decides to compete in the 2026 World Cup, while Barça may also be left waiting for an emotional return to a spiritual home.
