Former Arsenal star William Gallas has compared Martin Odegaard to club legend Dennis Bergkamp
The French defender has hailed Odegaard as a key player while praising the club for convincing him to sign a five-year contract.
While emphasizing Odeggard’s importance in Arsenal’s squad at the moment, Gallas went further by drawing comparisons between the Norwegian and club legend Dennis Bergkamp.
“It is good news that Arsenal have signed a new contract with Odegaard. He is a playmaker and he is the player this Arsenal team expects to unlock tight games with his qualities. The pass he made for Sakan that he then assisted for Trossard against Everton was amazing. He is an important Arsenal player. If you take him out of the team, Arsenal are not the same,” Gallas told Genting Casino.
I think you can compare Odegaard to Dennis Bergkamp. He’s still not at Bergkamp’s level – Bergkamp was a great player for Arsenal – but Odegaard reminds me of him. Odegaard can make the difference with his quality. Odegaard is very good with the ball. He has amazing vision – he rarely loses the ball. Every team would like to have a player like him.”
Odegaard, who is also Arsenal’s captain, signed a new five-year contract on Friday, extending his stay at the club until 2028. The deal also made the Norwegian midfielder Arsenal’s highest-paid player.
