Messi speaks for the first time after an MLS match: We will try to win the league

Lionel Messi has spoken for the first time after the MLS match, fulfilling his obligation to speak to the media – as required of all MLS players.

Despite sitting eight points outside the Eastern Conference play-offs – albeit with two games in hand – with nine games remaining, the Argentine aims to take America by storm this season, as he has done in Spain, France and Europe itself.

“The team grows more every day, we’ve said that since the beginning of all this. We were lucky enough to find a tournament and go to the finals,” he told Apple TV.

“And now we’re going for the goal of getting to eight to try and win the league that’s the way. It is clear that the victory gives us a lot of confidence”.

“We said before the match that this would be a big test for us to see where we are and what we are capable of doing,” added Messi.

“We played on a difficult pitch against a very good opponent – the recent champions and got a very important result for what is to come.”

The 36-year-old played the entire game – his second consecutive 90-minute game after starting off the bench in his MLS debut against the New York Red Bulls on August 26.

“I feel good physically”, said Messi.

“I thank God that I can continue to play and help the team in any way I can and we hope to continue in this dynamic.”
