“That was all people”, Buffon retires from football

Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon has retired from football.

The 45-year-old has made his difficult but inevitable decision official through a post on social networks.

“That’s it folks. You gave me everything. I gave you everything. We made it together”, Buffon wrote on “Twitter”.

The world champion with Italy enjoyed a remarkable 28-year career, with the last two seasons playing for his boyhood club Parma in Serie B.

The veteran goalkeeper prematurely terminated his contract with Parma, which was due to expire in June 2024.

Buffon is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the history of football.

He spent two decades at Juventus, while in the 2018/19 edition he was part of Paris Saint-Germain.

Gigi made his professional football debut at Parma aged 17 in 1995, and four years later won the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and Supercoppa Italia with the club.

He moved to Juventus in 2001 for 52 million euros, at the time a world record for a goalkeeper.

With Juventus, Buffon has won 10 Serie A titles in 19 seasons, as well as the Serie B championship in the 2006-07 season when the club was expelled from Serie A due to involvement in the Calciopoli scandal.
