David Silva will retire from football

Real Sociedad midfielder David Silva will retire from football after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, reports The Athletic.
The 37-year-old, who joined Sociedad in the summer of 2020, picked up an injury in training earlier this week. The injury has made the former Spain international consider ending his 19-year career as a professional player.

Silva began his career at Valencia, where he came through the youth academy and went on to make 168 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 36 assists and winning the Copa del Rey in 2008.

The midfielder then moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2010, where he became one of the best players in the club’s history. The Spaniard made 436 appearances for City, scoring 77 goals, providing 140 assists and winning 14 trophies, including four Premier League titles.

After ten successful years at City, the player returned to Spain where he made 93 appearances for Sociedad, scoring seven goals, providing 18 assists and helping his side reach Champions League qualification for the first time in a decade.
