Harry Maguire is no longer captain of Manchester United.
Maguire has confirmed it himself with a reaction on social networks, saying that he is disappointed with the decision of coach Erik ten Hag.
“After discussions with the coach today, he informed me that he is changing the captain. He told me his reasons and while personally I am extremely disappointed, I will continue to give everything when I wear the shirt”, said Maguire.
“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their great support while I was wearing the armband.”
The English defender emphasized that it was an honor for him to wear the captain’s armband.
“Since the day I took over the role three and a half years ago, it has been a great privilege to manage Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It is one of the biggest honors in club football. I have done everything I can to help United be successful – on and off the pitch.”
“I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for giving me the responsibility in the first place and I wish whoever takes over now every success and they will have my full support.”
Otherwise, Bruno Fernandes is being talked about as taking the captain’s armband for the season that will start in less than a month.
