Modric and Lovren end up under charges of perjury

Luka Modric and Dejan Lovren end up under charges from the Osijek Prosecutor’s Office in Croatia. The midfielder, along with Dejan Lovren, is alleged to have cheated in a testimony given on 13 June 2017, in a case against three senior Dinamo Zagreb officials and a tax official who were accused of embezzling money from the midfielder’s sale to Tottenham in 2008 and from defender to Lyon in 2010.

We remind you that from the process started against the officials of Dinamo Zagreb, the one who suffered the most was the former executive director, Zdravko Mamic, who was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for the crime of embezzlement of 15.5 million euros. The latter then escaped to Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he currently lives.

In that period, Modric’s testimony, but also Lovren’s later, was in favor of Mamic. In fact, the process against two Croatian players for perjury was closed in 2021, however the prosecution has decided to reopen the file and accuse Modric and Lovren of perjury
